Gold Medal Hospitality: How University Services Built a Village for the Special Olympics USA Games

| Special Olympics

Over 4,000 athletes brought the energy — but it took a dedicated, behind-the-scenes crew of U Services team members and campus partners to make the USA Games run like clockwork. From high-tech badges to late-night SPAM runs, here is how our teams stepped up to deliver an unforgettable week.

For one week, the Twin Cities campus didn't just host an event. It became a living, breathing Olympic Village. Welcoming more than 4,000 athletes, coaches and staff, and tens of thousands of fans, meant transforming daily operations into a massive, synchronized hospitality engine.

While the competitors were busy winning gold on the courts and fields, our University Services team was working around the clock to ensure every detail was seamless.

Beyond the late nights and planning sessions, what truly defined the week was the heart our staff brought to work. From crews learning athletes' names and trading pins to our teams keeping the campus grounds pristine, we set out to host an athletic event, but we ended up building a community.
