We house our students, serve the food, heat and cool buildings, care for our grounds, build and renovate facilities, plan the future of our campuses, and work to create a more environmentally sustainable university.

Bookstores

Bookstores is committed to delivering exceptional goods and services that promote student success and inspire faculty innovation. Bookstores also partners with University Libraries to manage Course Works, the University of Minnesota's comprehensive course materials program to ensure that all undergraduate students at all campuses have the materials they need to succeed in their courses at the start of each semester.

Contract Administration

Contract Administration manages and administers contracts for dining, beverage and vending services across the University of Minnesota, offering support for contract negotiation, vendor compliance and issue resolution. Contract Administration oversees dining facility construction on the Twin Cities campus and ensures vendor adherence to University standards for sustainability.

Housing & Residential Life (HRL) manages diverse on-campus living options to support student success and enhance the overall Gopher experience. HRL also oversees Conference & Event Services, which offers world-class meeting facilities, summer accommodations and dedicated planning assistance for groups hosting events on the Twin Cities campus.

Parking & Transportation Services

Parking & Transportation Services (PTS), including Fleet, facilitates safe and effective integrated transportation systems for all modes to enhance movement around the University of Minnesota. PTS' mission is to provide quality service while designing and maintaining safe, efficient systems, encouraging transportation alternatives and ensuring fiscal integrity to support the University's overall transportation objectives.

Printing Services and Addressing & Mailing Services function as the University's integrated communication production partners, offering effective, technologically advanced and cost-effective services. Their mission is to support the vital work of colleges and departments by consulting, designing, printing and mailing communications to share the University's key messages with targeted audiences.

U Card Office

The U Card Office realizes the University's mission by providing foundational services to all students, staff and faculty through their official University of Minnesota ID card, which is used for meals, printing, clock-in, security and more.

U Market Services

U Market Services manages the entire supply chain experience including product receiving, delivery and offering departments additional services like secure storage, logistical assistance and inventory management.

Capital Project Management

Capital Project Management (CPM) has responsibility for design and construction of capital improvement projects including new and existing buildings, furnishings and equipment, and utility infrastructure for all campuses, properties and facilities of the University of Minnesota.

Design

The CPM Design Team coordinates campus architecture and interiors across the University by working with internal and external project teams. Design advocates a University point of view toward campus design, integrating needs, budget and architectural quality.

Construction

The CPM Construction Team manages and coordinates project construction. Construction managers collaborate with University and external partners to prepare and execute contracts and promote safety and excellence; ensuring projects are delivered within designed scope, schedule and budget.

Facilities Management

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for all buildings, grounds and energy management needs of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. FM works to provide a safe, reliable and welcoming campus in support of the University's mission of teaching, research and outreach. FM's responsibilities include over 25 million square feet in more than 280 buildings across 1200 acres in the Twin Cities, and various support services for the Duluth, Morris and Crookston campuses.

Central Services

The FM Central Services Team is comprised of several teams which maintain campus grounds, manage waste and recycling, provide construction services and support district operations. Central Services also includes the specialty shops of locksmith, signs, design and the Hazardous Materials Program.

District Custodial & Maintenance Operations

The largest portion of FM services are performed by the department’s five operational districts (East Bank, Health Sciences, Housing/Recreation/Athletics, St. Paul and West Bank). These cross-functional teams are primarily responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of buildings in their geographical area, with additional support provided by Central Services and Energy Management.

Energy Management

The FM Energy Management Team maintains the infrastructure and utilities necessary to heat, cool and light the Twin Cities campus. They lead campus energy conservation efforts to help reduce the University’s carbon footprint. Energy Management also provides mechanical, electrical, civil and building automation engineering support for University assets.

Sustainability at Twin Cities provides direction and coordination for sustainability initiatives on the Twin Cities campus. The Office of Sustainability at Twin Cities is a part of Facilities Management and collaborates with departments and units across campus to advance the environmental and social sustainability goals of the institution.

Planning, Space & Real Estate

Planning, Space & Real Estate (PSRE) works collaboratively with the University community to enhance the place that is the University of Minnesota. Through strategic expertise, integrated services and stewardship of physical assets, PSRE helps the University adapt to change, plan for an enduring future, advance the mission and position the itself as a premier institution.

Planning

The planning team guides the University's decisions about land use, urban design, open space, density and mobility/circulation networks at multiple levels. Planning staff also manage jurisdictional interactions related to project requirements, which provides essential support for capital project and real estate transactions.

Space Planning & Management

Provides thoughtful space programming, planning and management services of nearly 33 million gross square feet of space by working collaboratively with stakeholders across the University. They work to develop solutions for both near and long-term space problems, where these partnerships ensure effective, efficient and equitable use of this limited institutional resource for its highest and best use.

Real Estate Office

The Real Estate Office provides services including leasing, licensing, acquisition and disposition of real estate, and administration of all access agreements for University property.

Sustainability and continuous improvement are a part of the University of Minnesota's operational culture. Team members across the system make an impact on sustainability operations, particularly as the campuses advance toward carbon neutrality and achieving a gold rating on the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System.

Our Management Services division serves as the administrative backbone of University Services, providing a centralized hub of high-quality support for its divisions, departments and partners. By integrating specialized expertise in Finance and Systems, Human Resources and Marketing & Communications, the division ensures seamless service delivery. Management Services focuses on optimizing internal processes and stewarding University resources, allowing University Services to focus on its core mission of creating the places and experiences that inspire people to learn, discover, live and work at the University of Minnesota.

Finance and Systems provides the essential fiscal and technical infrastructure for University Services through its support functions. Finance and Payroll ensure budget integrity and timely compensation, while IT and Facility Information Services manage critical digital platforms and building data. Specialized expertise in Project Management provides structured oversight for strategic initiatives.

Human Resources

University Services Human Resources (USHR) is dedicated to supporting the service-oriented team that makes the University work. USHR partners with the Office of Human Resources to ensure human resource practices within University Services units are aligned with policies, practices and governing documents. In addition to all University Services divisions, USHR supports the Department of Public Safety, Health, Safety and Risk Management, and Office of Human Resources.
